Mawei
Mawei represents a beautiful union of two worlds.
Founder Wei Ma grew up in Shanghai, surrounded by Chinese traditions and Western influences, and later settled on the southern coast of Norway, near the pristine Hvaler archipelago. The sea, light and wind there, along with her passion for cashmere, have inspired garments that unite the warmth of her heritage with the pure clarity of Scandinavian design.
Each garment is designed and developed with a focus on versatility, timelessness and sustainability.
The name Mawei stands for passion, integrity and self-awareness. The visual identity is inspired by the traditional Chinese signature stamp yinzhang , which has a history of more than 3,600 years. The stamp has been reinterpreted by partner and designer Bjørn Rybakken, in a style characterized by clean lines and thoughtful contrasts that reflect both cultural heritage and modern simplicity.
Mawei celebrates meaningful contrasts – between East and North, heritage and modernity, softness and simplicity. The garments are created to be worn, loved and lasted.
